Ona Margules died on September 14, 2016 at Poppen Hospice in Muskegon, MI.

She was born on September 29, 1927 to the Rev. LeRoy and Mrs. Grace (Savage) Lightfoot in Bombay, India. She spent her early years in the town of Ahmednagar, and attended Kodaikanal International School. She left India at the age of 7 with her family and sailed to the United States after traveling Egypt, the Holyland and Europe. Thus began of her love of traveling. She was born on September 29, 1927 to the Rev. LeRoy and Mrs. Grace (Savage) Lightfoot in Bombay, India. She spent her early years in the town of Ahmednagar, and attended Kodaikanal International School. She left India at the age of 7 with her family and sailed to the United States after traveling Egypt, the Holyland and Europe. Thus began of her love of traveling. Ona grew up among the small towns in Southwest Michigan where her father served as a minister. After graduating from Vicksburg High School as salutatorian in 1945, she entered the University of Michigan on a full Regents-Alumni scholarship. She married Phillip Harry Margules on March 5, 1948, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1949. In addition to being a wife, mother and homemaker, Ona was a long-time member of Girl Scouts, and served as a leader and cookie chairman for many years. She was an early and long-time member of Harbor Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Muskegon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edward Lightfoot, and her sisters Irene Hendley and Ruth Cordell. She is survived by her husband Phillip, her children Deborah, Suzanne (David) Lowe, Jonathan (Linda) and Peter (Michelle Belt), two grandsons Peter II and Simon, as well as two nieces and two nephews.

According to her wishes, she will be cremated. There will be no funeral. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 24th at 2:00 pm at Harbor Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 1296 Montgomery Ave at McGraft St in Muskegon.
